Paul Revere House One-Week Internship for High Schoolers
Are you curious about how history museums work? Join our five-day summer internship program for high schoolers! You’ll get a taste of how historians and museum staff investigate the past and decide how to share history with the public. History buffs are welcome, and so is anyone who wants to explore what it would be like to work at a history museum. You don’t need to know anything about Paul Revere, the American Revolution, or museums already. You will watch museum staff in action, talk with staff about our jobs, and learn about some issues and controversies in the museum field today. You’ll do some work alone, and also collaborate with your fellow interns to create content about real museum artifacts that you’re interested in.
- No cost; bring your own lunch.
- For students who will be entering 10th – 12th grade in Fall 2025.
- July 21 – 25 (Monday – Friday), 10 am to 3 pm
- Located at the Paul Revere House in Boston’s North End, near Haymarket and North Station stops on the MBTA.
- Most of the site is wheelchair-accessible (including restrooms) and we will work with students to ensure any access needs are met.
- Space in the program is limited and there is a short application form, but you do not need to submit a resume to apply.
- Please submit applications by April 30th!
This program is for students who are excited to engage in serious discussions about history and museums, regardless of whether they typically excel in traditional academic settings.
We have designed the program with the expectation that students will be present for the whole session, but we may be able to make accommodations if a student has a conflict with part of the session due to work, school, or caregiving responsibilities.
We strive to be an inclusive organization at all levels, and welcome students who identify as members of marginalized groups. Many marginalized communities are underrepresented in the history and museum fields, and we hope to do our part to change that with this program and others.
The group of five to eight students will be working with two to three of our professional staff at a time. During the internship they will spend time in the museum offices and in public areas of the museum, always with a staff member from the program.
About the Paul Revere House
The Paul Revere House Museum is a history museum in downtown Boston, located in the house that Paul Revere lived in in the late 1700s. Paul Revere was a Patriot during the American Revolution, and is famous today for his Midnight Ride warning Patriots that British troops were on the move prior to the Battles of Lexington and Concord. But to us, he’s also a starting point for talking about daily life, politics, and families in colonial Boston. Our programs cover many different time periods of the house’s history, including the surrounding neighborhood and history of immigration in the North End of Boston.
Inside, the house museum is set up the way historians think it might have looked when it was someone’s home, including furniture from the time period, and some objects which actually belonged to Paul Revere. Visitors walk through at their own pace, and staff members in the house tell them about what life was like in the 17th and 18th centuries and answer questions. We also host guided tours, field trips, and other school programs. Our visitor center includes two exhibits about Revere’s ride and businesses. In addition to tours at the museum, we also bring programs to schools, and share history through our lecture series, podcast, newsletter, and other resources. Participants in this summer program will get a chance to see how some of these different day-to-day jobs are done, and participate in sharing history with the public.
